In Favourites

Here are a few of the favourite things from the last week over here:

    1. Pairing Running + Starbucks in the morning

I wanted to start running again in the mornings.  Not far. Not with other people who depend on me.  Just a little bit to get my body moving before the day begins.  But I also really, really LOVE sitting and drinking my coffee in the mornings too.  So, I am using the strategy of pairing to do both. Last week, the dog and I ran the long way to Starbucks, grabbed with my sweaty hands a decaf Americano (not too pricey and won’t give me the shakes later), and walked the rest of the way home.  Let me tell you, it was wonderful! And if I do it for 4-ish mornings a week, I am no worse off than buying a gym pass for the month.

    3. Listening to the new Shauna Niequist podcast while running to Starbucks.

I love Shauna’s books, like Present Over Perfect, and now I can listen to her on the go too!

    4. Being finished school for the summer.

We are all finished our formal homeschooling until September.  I almost don’t know what to do with myself except read some more and get outside.

    5. Watching my kids be the extroverts that I am not.

While visiting Firesong Retreat this past weekend, the boys met one of the owners, Dean.  A grandpa who continues to be one to every kid when his own are not there, Dean asked the boys if they wanted to go fishing with him the next day.  They were very excited but I didn’t want them to get their hopes up since you know, adults are really busy.  The next day, they found Dean, ran up to him, and I hear J say to him “Excuse me, Dean, can we take you up on your offer to go fishing?”  Well, this introvert is just squirming in her skin at his request.  Dean was more than happy to take them out after supper and hung on until each kid caught a fish.  They were beyond excited even if they got some seaweed flung at their faces by the fish!!
